"The Rathausfestsaal was very well attended on Friday evening when the Duo Unruh gave their concert as part of the Saarbrücken summer music. The cellist Dina Bolshakova and the pianist Katharina Polivaeva are more like a technical balance, the flywheel of a small clockwork, because they play music as a perfect unit and move effortlessly through sound worlds of past and present. Bolshakova conjured flageolet and virtuoso runs with ease, Polivaeva stood by her perfectly.
Especially the mixed program with classical and new music inspired the audience, technical perfection always served the design of the music.
This was immediately audible at the beginning of the evening in Luigi Boccherini's demanding Sonata in A major (1743-1805), which he had composed as a cello virtuoso for his own use.
The audience then heard the world premiere of "Flüchtige Gedanken", a work by Cologne composer and librettist Martin Brenne, born in 1984. Starting from the title, he musically implemented the process of reflection: Restless pondering, remembering, reflecting in circles around themselves, ingenious ideas - the dialogue of musical thoughts of both instruments was comprehensible for the listeners because the material was processed in a very varied way. The duo worked out dynamic, tonal and tonal contrasts of the equally arranged cello and piano parts excellently. We can look forward to the next opus by Brenne.
Variations on a theme by Rossini" by Niccolò Paganini (1782-1840) followed. Finally, Don Jaffé (*1933) performed the Sonata Op. 6 "Via dolorosa Ebraica", which was the seriousness of her theme: instead of Christ's Passion, Jaffé set the Passion of the Jews to music.
The audience was simply thrilled, and Bravo shouts were heard, so that the two musicians thanked with a small encore. It was their third concert at the Saarbrücken Summer Music. If they come back in 2019, I'm sure the room will be full again."

The result was an exciting concert evening that captivated the audience from the very beginning. The program presented the most diverse facets of musical sensations. From Hindemith's variations on "A Frog He Went A Courting", which they interpreted equally with wit and a sense of the unusual constellations of Hindemith's compositional technique, to the contemplation in Arvo Pärts's "Mirror in the Mirror", there was a large arch. The heart of the evening, Shostakovich's great cello sonata, whose long breath of breath the two of them realized with technical perfection and an interpretative creative power, which one cannot necessarily expect from such a young ensemble, will remain in memory.".

Standing ovations for two exceptional artists with their WGT debut 2017 (4.06.2017)
The "duoUNRUH" had chosen his WGT debut at the Alte Handelsbörse in Leipzig in front of the audience of the WGT Musik Kammer with four works for violoncello and piano in the special chamber music series. The contrasting compositions of this colourful evening were presented with a fine sense of dramaturgy and tonal finesse. Arvo Pärt's "Fratres" and "Spiegel im Spiegel" frame the approximately one-hour program, which allowed for a wide range of stylistic tensions with the sonata by Dmitry Shostakovich and a composition by the Berlin composer Martin Torp.
The two artists inspired the audience with their music, their strong stage presence, the sensitive interplay and technically flawless playing and enraptured them to standing ovations. Bravo!
The WGT Musik Kammer is looking forward to further concerts of the international ensemble at the Festival of Black Romantic Figures.

"The concert of the duo UNRUH in the sold-out Spiegelsaal is not often offered in the capital. The clever and daring programme was composed exclusively of works composed between 1914 and 2000. The two young musicians succeeded in convincing the large audience with a pure modernist programme, and in doing so they managed to inspire them with enthusiasm. They played with precision, transparency and unpretentiousness, without any overwhelming effects. Arvo Pärts's famous pieces "Fratres" and "Spiegel im Spiegel", both of which were performed in a very simple and intimate manner, were the tranquil places in the programme. The same applies to Ravel's "Deux mélodies hébraiques", which resounded in an effective transcription of the duo. A first highlight of the concert was the sonata for cello and piano by the composer Martin Torp, born in 1957. This "light-flooded" and entertaining work captivated us with its beautiful sound and organic flow - a good example of the fact that even today, music is still written that can delight a wide audience spontaneously (without falling into superficiality or copying styles). The end of the program was Dmitri Shostakovich's Sonata op. 40. This piece, which is difficult in many respects, requires enormous creative power and great virtuosity from the interpreters. Cellist Dina Bolshakova and Katharina Polivaeva on the grand piano proved that they have both. Without any sign of effort or fatigue, they mastered all the cliffs of the masterpiece composed in 1934 with mastery and musical persuasion."

The two musicians Dina Bolshakova and Katharina Polivaeva call their programme "Kaleidoscope for cello and piano". It was really a fascinating kaleidoscope of sounds that could be heard at their concert on September 14th at the "Salonmusik" in the café "eßkultur" in Körnerpark. They confidently and expressively interpreted contemporary music by Schnittke, Webern, Arvo Pärt and other modern composers. From very soft pizzicati on the cello to massive piano chords, the sound spectrum of the two great musicians was very wide."

"(...) various accelerations and generally dynamic and difficult increases - up to the more convincing solo works Conventus (for piano, composed in 2009, published in 2012) and Stravinskana (published in 2012). Both the violinist Nowicka and the invited pianists Pola Lazar, Milena Antoniewicz, Jennifer Hymer, Katharina Polivaeva and Michael Kr?lewski offer concentrated and audibly mature interpretations. However, the range of compositional demands is large, especially in the accompanying parts. Conventus is a rigorous instrument portrait that stimulates and contrasts the different sound registers of the grand piano."

"Conventus for piano solo is played beautifully by pianist Katharina Polivaeva. One can imagine the similarity to creating a very beautiful sculpture. The listener could and should imagine flying through the air, as a musical space is created by carving out a low, middle, and high register on a piano. This imagery is achieved through techniques such as clusters and faint minimalistic characteristics. Natural and spatial elements are further emphasized by sustaining tones through the pedals. This emotional, expressive, powerful work is full of imagination."
