... a play of words: "Unruh", the heart of a watch and the agitation, as a state of lively, driven agitation.
The duo, with Katharina Polivaeva (piano) and Dina Bolshakova (violoncello), was founded in the spring of 2014. The focus is on unknown works of chamber music of the 20th/21st century.
The two musicians met during the recording session of a trio from Daniel Vezza,"The nature of evidence", which was recorded together with flute player Liam Mallett (member of the "Zafraan Ensemble"). The pianist and cellist joined forces to create a common enthusiasm for New Music, and from 2014 they will perform regularly as duoUNRUH. One highlight was their concert with a full evening program at the Bode Museum (Sunday concerts, 2014), which the newly founded duoUNRUH gave in front of about 500 spectators. At the invitation of festivals, duoUNRUH has made guest appearances at WGT Musik Kammer Leipzig (2017),"UDK crescendo Festival" (2017),"Saarbrücker Sommermusik" (2016,2017),"ALL THATs JAZZ @ NOVILLA for Kunst am Spreeknie" Berlin (2015) and has already made two concert tours to Russia. In 2017, duoUNRUH was invited by the B&M Theocharakis Foundation for the Fine Arts & Music to Athens for a concert.
Furthermore, the musicians are often asked for studio recordings (e. g. during a master class of the UDK sound masters, led by the chief sound engineer of the BR Wolfram Graul). The duo enjoys an increasing interest from composers who like to entrust their works to the ensemble.
The repertoire now includes works by Arvo Pärt, Ernest Bloch, Paul Hindemith, Alfred Schnittke, Don Jaffe, Martin Brenne, Anton Webern, Boris Blacher, Katalyn Pocs, Dmitri Shostakovich, Frédéric Chopin, Leos Janácek, Luigi Boccherini, Camille Saint-Saëns, Martin Torp, Claude Debussy, Maurice Ravel, Robert Schumann, Max Bruch, George Volkov.
